CWMN volunteers sample water quality in streams and the Neponset River, from May through October, throughout the 14 communities of the Neponset Watershed. If you have any questions about the data, or want to become a CWMN volunteer, please contact Environmental Science Fellow, Andres Ripley, at x or [email protected] The Citizen Water Monitoring Network or "CWMN" is an Environmental Protection Agency-approved, volunteer-based approach to water quality monitoring that has been running at NepRWA for over 20 years.

For those of you that are less familiar with CWMN, it is a volunteer-based water quality monitoring program that NepRWA has run for over 20 years. Once a month, from May to October, over 50 volunteers partake in various water quality monitoring activities at 41 sites throughout the watershed, and the Neponset River main stem.

Over the last decade or more there has been little progress in improving water quality in the Lower Neponset River in spite of monitoring efforts by many organizations.

There has been very limited effort to collaborate and compare the water quality data or make overall recommendations for remediation. Areas of undeveloped land are key to maintaining the health and function of the Neponset River Watershed, its biodiversity, community character, public recreation opportunities, and public well-being, and we advocate for the acquisition, protection, and public access of these lands.

Water quality does not consistently meet standards near Tenean Beach or MWRA's Commercial Point combined sewer overflow treatment facility outfall in Dorchester Bay.
